Sloppy Joes

This Sloppy Joes recipe makes a hearty meal for a big, hungry crew. Ground turkey makes this recipe a bit healthier than traditional sloppy joes.

  • 2 1/2 lbs ground turkey
  • 1 small yellow onion, chopped OR 2 T dried chopped onion
  • salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 15-oz can tomato sauce
  • 1 6-oz can tomato paste
  • 1 tsp garlic salt
  • 1 tsp chili powder
  • 2 tspĀ  Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 T quick oats
  • water to the correct consistency
  • burger buns


  1. Step 1: Brown ground turkey in a large saute pan. Season with salt and pepper as it cooks.

  2. Step 2: Add onion when the turkey is almost browned and continue to cook, stirring until the onion is translucent.

  3. Step 3: Add tomato sauce, paste, garlic salt, chili powder, Worcestershire, and quick oats and stir until combined. Add a small amount of water to your desired consistency.

  4. Step 4: Heat through, then turn down to low heat and simmer for at least 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
